Inhibition of metal dusting corrosion on Fe-based alloy by combined near surface severe plastic deformation (NS-SPD) and thermochemical treatment

• The metal dusting corrosion resistance of Fe-based alloy is significantly improved. Development at each step explained by SEM, Raman and FIB/TEM/EDS/EELS. NS-SPD yields high density defects in the deformation zone near surface. Thermochemical treatment promotes formation a protective Cr-rich oxide scale. Combined thermochemical has been used to improve Incoloy 800. After testing under infinite carbon activity for 20?100 h, was not found region while products formed non-NS-SPD region. improved result yielding that developed into an ultra-fine-grained structure surface during subsequent treatment.
